uPVC Door & Window Repairs in Knutsford & WA16
When a uPVC door stops locking, the door itself is rarely the problem. It’s almost always the multipoint mechanism inside it: a worn gearbox, locking points that no longer line up with the frame, or a handle that has given up. Darren is a Cheshire-based locksmith. You speak to him directly, and he can be with you across Knutsford and the WA16 villages in as little as 30 minutes. He covers everywhere from homes off King Street and Canute Place to the 1960s houses on the Longridge estate and newer builds on the edge of town.
He carries the parts that fail most often: gearboxes, handles and euro cylinders for the common uPVC door brands. That means most Knutsford repairs are finished on the first visit, without waiting for parts to be ordered. You get a clear price before any work starts, and he’ll tell you honestly whether the door needs a new part or just an adjustment. uPVC Problems Darren Fixes in Knutsford
Most Knutsford repairs finished on the first visit — the common parts are already on the van.
From King Street and the town centre out to Longridge, Toft and Mere, the pattern is usually the same: the uPVC door or window is fine, it's the mechanism inside that has worn or failed. Darren carries gearboxes, handles and cylinders for the most common brands, so most jobs across WA16 are sorted without waiting for parts to be ordered.
Door Won't Lock
You lift the handle and nothing catches, or the key won't turn. Usually a failed gearbox inside the multipoint mechanism — replaced on the spot in most cases.
Dropped or Sticking Door
Over time doors drop on their hinges, so the locking points miss the keeps and you end up forcing the handle. Darren realigns the door and adjusts the keeps.
Stiff or Seized Handle
A handle that's getting harder to lift is an early warning. Caught at this stage it's often an adjustment and lubrication, not a new mechanism.
Snapped or Loose Handle
Handle snapped or working loose from the door? Darren carries replacements for the most common uPVC brands and fits them the same visit.
Door Locked Shut
If the mechanism fails with the door closed, Darren gets it open without damaging the door or frame, then repairs the mechanism so it locks properly again.
uPVC Window & Patio Door Locks
Window handles that won't latch, seized espagnolette mechanisms and patio door locks that no longer secure — repaired or replaced on site across Knutsford and WA16.
Post-Burglary uPVC Repair
Door or frame forced in a break-in? Darren makes the property secure on the same visit and talks you through upgrade options, with no obligation.
Anti-Snap Cylinder Upgrade
Many older uPVC doors still have a basic euro cylinder. Darren can swap it for an anti-snap cylinder while he's there — it comes with its own new set of keys.
Repair First, Replace Only If Needed
Darren’s approach is to fix the cause, not sell you a new door. If a realignment or adjustment solves it, that’s all you pay for. If the gearbox has failed, he replaces the gearbox, not the whole mechanism. A full new mechanism is only fitted when the old one is genuinely finished.
If your door isn’t broken yet but is getting stiff or needs a firm shove to lock, our uPVC Rescue package covers realignment, lubrication and a full mechanism check from £80. Any mechanism replacement is quoted separately.

Frequently Asked Questions
Yes. Darren is available 24/7 across Knutsford and WA16 with no call-out fee, and a door that won't lock is treated as urgent because your home isn't secure. Most repairs are done on the same visit because he carries the common parts.
Almost never a new door. In Knutsford homes the fault is usually the gearbox, the handle or the door alignment. Darren will tell you which it is before quoting, and only replaces the full mechanism when it's genuinely worn out.
uPVC doors drop slightly on their hinges over time, and they move with the seasons, so the locking points stop lining up with the frame. It's usually an adjustment rather than a repair. Leave it too long, though, and forcing the handle can break the gearbox. If yours is getting stiff, it's cheaper to have it looked at now.
There's no call-out fee and no VAT, and you get a clear price before any work begins. A door that only needs realigning and servicing starts from £80 with the uPVC Rescue package. A replacement gearbox or mechanism is quoted on the spot.
Yes. Many older uPVC doors around Knutsford still have a standard euro cylinder. Darren can fit an anti-snap cylinder during the same visit, which comes with a new set of keys.
